Our Roots

A happy dog

Veterinary Medical Associates has been providing veterinary services to our clients and their companions for more than fifty years. Our current location is at 204 West Granger Avenue in Modesto, California. This facility was built from the ground up in 1971, under the direction of Dr. William Wetmore, as a customized veterinary hospital. The facility and technology within has been updated regularly ever since, to provide leading-edge veterinary medical and surgical procedures to our community.

Dr. Jeff Kahler joined us in 1991 and expanded our patient base to include exotic animals. Dr. Kahler became the director in 1996, and continues in that position today. He also writes a regular column, "Your Pet," in the Modesto Bee as a service to all area pet owners.

Our Standards

We are one of only a handful of veterinary hospitals in the United States to have been honored by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA®) with 50 years of accreditation. This honor requires adhering to very high standards in veterinary practice and facilities. Only 10% of all veterinary hospitals in the United States are AAHA certified.

Our Mission

Through our multiple decades as a premier veterinary hospital in Modesto, we have seen and been part of great progress and innovation in the veterinary world. During this time, one thing has never changed for us: Veterinary Medical Associates is dedicated to providing your companions with the finest health care available.

For us, no relationship is more important than the bond between companion pet and caretaker, and we have built our practice to focus on these wonderful relationships. Simply put, no pursuit is more rewarding than working with people whose companions are part of their family.
